As 2022 comes to an end, The Native can look back on the year with pride. Landmark moments arrived seemingly every week: signing to This Feeling Records, releasing their acclaimed ‘Looking Back’ EP, hitting festivals from Reading to Leeds and the Isle of Wight, performing on ‘Soccer AM’, seeing their ‘Looking Back’ video broadcast on ‘Sunday Brunch’, and most recently touring Europe as guests to Bastille.
Bastille introduced The Native to huge audiences across Europe, and the Plymouth quintet seized the moment every single night. It was an experience that is depicted in the new video for the tour’s regular opening song, ‘Blindside’. The video is unveiled as The Native prepare to release the Deluxe Edition of the ‘Looking Back’ EP early in 2023.
Filmed on their recent European tour as guests to Bastille, the ‘Blindside’ video captures the excitement and the rush of a young band embarking upon one of their first major tours. From seeing the sights to backstage drinks and youthful hijinks, the video hits all of the beats you’d expect but it also shows how The Native explored onto arena-sized stages as if they’ve been doing it for all of their lives. And you can see that the audience reaction is immense - a nice reminder that at any gig, the previously unknown support band could become your next wave favourites. Capped with a black-and-white aesthetic that provides a sense of instant nostalgia, the video was filmed and edited by Sam Fogg.
The Native commented, “We’re back on home soil after six countries in ten days. Somehow the five of us driving our 15-year-old van in places we’ve never been didn’t end in disaster. Feeling lucky to have played in some amazing venues in front of so many new faces. A special thanks to Dan, Bastille and all of the crew for looking after us, and to all of you who’ve supported us along the way!”
